Toronto is Canada’s biggest city break — the CN Tower, world-class museums, neighbourhood food, the Toronto Islands, and Niagara Falls close enough for a day trip. Three days is enough to do it well if you plan in the right order: pick your base, decide on a city pass honestly, book your must-do tickets early, and save one day for Niagara or the Islands. This Canada-first guide keeps it simple, with no prices promised — check each partner’s page for current prices and inclusions before you buy.

1. Pick your base first — downtown is the shortcut
For a first 3-day trip, stay downtown near Union Station, the Entertainment District, or Queen West. You can walk to the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, the Rogers Centre, St. Lawrence Market and the ferry terminal, and Union gives you the UP Express to Pearson Airport plus GO Transit for day trips. Midtown (Yonge & Bloor) is a good second choice near the Royal Ontario Museum and Yorkville.
Compare hotels on our Hotel page (visitors can compare Trip.com, Expedia and Agoda options there)
2. The pass question — do the math before you buy
A city pass only saves money if you actually visit enough included attractions in the time you have. Count your list first: if the CN Tower, an aquarium or museum day, and one or two more paid sights are all on your Day 1–2 plan, check the pass. If you prefer one big sight a day plus free neighbourhoods, markets and the Islands ferry, pay as you go instead.
Go City offers All-Inclusive (unlimited attractions on chosen days) and Explorer (a set number of attractions) style passes in many cities — inclusions change, so check Toronto’s current list on the Go City page before buying.
3. Book the must-do tickets next — timed entry fills up
CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario and Casa Loma are the big-ticket stops. Book timed-entry tickets ahead for weekends, holidays and school breaks, do the Tower early in the day for shorter lines and clearer views, and pair nearby sights: Tower + Aquarium on Day 1, ROM + AGO on Day 2.

4. Day trips — Niagara first, Islands for the easy day
Niagara Falls is the classic Toronto day trip, about 1.5–2 hours each way by tour coach, GO train (seasonal/weekend service varies) or rental car. A booked day tour is the no-driving shortcut: transport, Falls time, and often Niagara-on-the-Lake included — check exactly what your tour includes before checkout on Klook.
If you’d rather stay in the city, the Toronto Islands ferry is the budget winner: skyline views, beaches and bike rentals, for the cost of a ferry ride — buy ferry tickets through official Toronto ferry channels.

5. The free and cheap shortcuts locals use
St. Lawrence Market (closed some days — check before you go), the Distillery District, Kensington Market, Graffiti Alley, Nathan Phillips Square, and walking the waterfront are free. The PATH underground network is the winter shortcut between downtown hotels, Union Station and the Eaton Centre. A PRESTO card makes TTC transit simple — get transit details from the TTC’s official channels.
A simple 3-day Toronto plan
Day 1: Arrive, Union Station area, CN Tower early, Ripley’s Aquarium, dinner near King West, waterfront walk.
Day 2: St. Lawrence Market in the morning, Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario or Casa Loma, Kensington Market / Queen West in the late afternoon.
Day 3: Niagara Falls day tour — or, for a slower day, the Toronto Islands ferry, Distillery District, and last-minute souvenir stops before you leave.
